Michael Jackson's reign as King of Pop begins right here!
"Off The Wall" combines funk, disco, soul and R&B in a visionary way
Only one thing was clear to Michael Jackson at the beginning of the recording sessions: he didn't want to sound like The Jacksons
The late producer legend Quincy Jones did him this favor - the beginning of a collaboration that would shape almost two highly creative decades in Jackson's artistic discography
Jackson was not the sole author of the furious track list: Among others, Stevie Wonder ("I Can't Help It"), Rod Temperton ("Rock With You") and Paul McCartney ("Girlfriend") participated in the songwriting
While "Girlfriend" only managed to place in the top 50 of the singles charts in Europe on the island, the two other singles and "She's Out Of My Life", written by Tom Bahler, reached high chart positions, particularly in the UK and the USA
"Rock With You" and the song "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough", written by Jackson himself, even managed to establish themselves at the top of the US singles charts
The album, on the other hand, broke all records: To date, it has been certified platinum nine times (! ) and sold over 20 million units in total - the most successful album by a black artist worldwide to date -
