Elly Ney was a German romantic pianist who specialized in performing music by Beethoven
Born in Düsseldorf, her grandmonther introduced her to the works of Beethoven and supported her studies of the piano
Due to her enthusiasm for National Socialism, the artist is still considered "Hitler's pianist" today.
At the same time, her audience celebrated her as the greatest Beethoven interpreter of her time
These recordings of four of Beethoven's piano sonatas were first released by Deutsche Grammophon in 1957
Ney's slow playing, the deliberate delays, the variations of almost hypnotic quality capture the listener more and more
The pianist's playing was less technically perfect than thrillingly soulful.
Thus this recording of four piano sonatas also presents passionate, never boring, atmospheric recordings of Beethoven's works
